Mind your posture

Why You Should Be Mindful of Your Posture

“Happy chemicals" are the substances in our brains called neurotransmitters that influence things like mood, motivation, productivity, feelings of wellbeing, trust, and connection with others. There are a number of these chemicals in our body, including serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. The good news is you can work up these neurotransmitters naturally!

One surprising and super easy trick is to improve your posture. Assuming a strong posture and holding it for as little as two minutes has been found to increase happy hormones and decrease stress hormone levels like cortisol, which works directly against neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine.

So, the next time your energy is low, or you feel down or insecure, be mindful of how you are carrying your body (standing up and sitting down). If you are slouching, lift yourself up physically, and you will feel better mentally and emotionally!
