Myth of multitasking

The Myth of Multitasking

You might think you are getting a lot done at once when you multitask, but your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. So instead of doing multiple tasks simultaneously, your brain is actually switching tasks quickly.

There is a start/stop/start process in the brain that makes you less efficient and more likely to make mistakes and forget things. Over time it saps your energy and ultimately hurts your overall health and well-being.

This is critically important for you to remember when you are doing your schoolwork. The stress and anxiety from multitasking can result in feeling completely overwhelmed, which will harm your productivity and long-term success.

The key to being truly productive is to approach the many tasks on your plate in an orderly and organized way. Multitasking is the last thing you should do when you have a lot to get done.
